The author focus on the life of two boys, but during that time, he also became familiar with the boys’ family. He often had many discussions with the mother of the two boys; the mother talked about many issues that were going on in the community that her family lived in. She talks to the author about the crime, housing, employment, and health. One of her children friend was shot by police officers, and there wasn’t any actions taking, another friend was shot by gang violence, and many of them were arrested for minor offenses. When the crime became outrageous, the community was sinking, and jobs were disappearing; many of the residents that stayed in the community were unemployed and receiving government benefits.
